Monday morning Ponderings!!

on Monday, 12 July 2010.

Monday mornings have a bad rep.  And I am not sure how your Monday mornings are for you, but what instantly comes to my mind are songs like the Boomtown Rats, 'I don't like Mondays' or the Bangles, 'Manic Monday'.  But already my Monday is beginning to turn out like they ought too, a 'ship wreck'.  While I guess that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but that's the affect that Mondays have on you.  The excitement that you have for Fridays is only surpassed by the dread you have for Monday mornings and the contempt that you hold toward your alarm clock as it begins to yell, once again into your ear, it's Monday morning and it's time to get up and go to work!

I do have a few memorable Monday mornings which I hope will bring a smile to my face every time that I think of them.  I proposed to my wife on a Sunday and so it was that on Monday I had to break the news to my family.  I remember the day I first arrived up to college, that was a Monday and I loved college.  And then off course there is that wonderful feeling of waking up on a Monday morning to the sound of silence, no alarm clock and no hurry to get up, it’s the holidays.

As you begin your week what to plan to do, what do you hope to achieve?  Maybe you simply just want to get through the next five days and wish the weekend was here sooner.  For me Monday mornings don’t hold the dread that they once did, maybe I am just getting old.  I know this one thing for sure, life is too short to wish the weeks away, so we can have that Friday feeling again.

Over the last year I have been studying the book of Romans with my small group.  We have attempted to understand some of the complex issues that Paul raises. And at the same time rejoice in the simple truth of the Gospel that Paul is si excited to get across.  As you begin this week why not pick up your Bibles and start to read the book of Romans.  In Romans 1:17 Paul says, “For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’” Or to put it more simply that the person who trusts in God will live his life to the full.  May God bless you this week.
